Arcadia's Twin Schools
This is a photo of the Arcadia Village School and Burnham School after they were moved to the same site in Arcadia at the NE corner of 4th Street and Lake Street. Left: Arcadia Village School. Right:Burnham School.
In 1910 these two school buildings were moved to
make room for the new high school.
"The school buildings have been moved off the school grounds and work
will begin immediately on the new school house." --
Manistee Daily News.

The Burnham School in Arcadia
This is a photo of the Burnham School after it was moved from Burnham to the NE corner of 4thStreet and Lake Street next to the Village School. Together these two schools were call the Twin Schools.

The Gabel School
This is Arcadia School District school number 1, the Gabel School.

This is the class photo from 1914 when, as the photo says,
Miss Marie Peterson was the teacher.

The Malcolm School for 1902-1902
This is Pleasonton Township School District No 2, also known as the Malcolm School. One acre of land was purchased from David Green for $50. F.M. Stockman constructed the building for $600. Theschool opened in September 1886.


School Locations
The pushpin on the right marks the approximate location of the log school built in 1870. The pushpin on the left marks the location of the wood frame school built in 1886

The Pierport School
20 x 32 ft. with 11 ft. ceiling. Wood frame. Building commenced November 2, 1874. Built by H. C. Matteson, M. Swiger, Crabb, Keil, and Patch. The teacher was paid $100 for four months: two in thewinter and two in the summer. School commenced January 11, 1875. Each scholar was expected to provide 1/4 cord of maple.

Pierport school class in May 1904
"The new school house at Pierport was built by C.W. Perry and presented
to the district at $300. The building is lathed, plastered, and wellfinished
in every respect,and would ordinarily cost $600." -- Times & Standard.

The school was located in southwest Benzie County on County Line Road south of Putney Corners.Wood
